2003 - STS 107 Columbia launches from Cape Canaveral. It was the 113th flight of the Space Shuttle program and the final flight of Columbia which met a tragic end on landing on February 1.

1969 - Launch of Soyuz 5. It was the first-ever docking of two manned spacecraft and is known for the dramatic re-entry, a hard landing, which broke the teeth of first time cosmonaut, Boris Volynov.


1952 - L. Blaine Hammond, American pilot and astronaut.
1955 - Jerry M. Linenger, American doctor and astronaut.
