1973 - Mars 5 (USSR) was launched to serve as an image collector and a relay station for Mars 6 and 7 landers. On February 2, 1974 the orbiter began transmitting images from Mars and "collected data for 22 orbits until a loss of pressurization in the transmitter housing ended the mission. About 60 images were returned over a nine day period showing swaths of the area south of Valles Marineris.

she.png1984 - Svetlana Savitskaya became the first woman to walk in space. The walk lasted 3.58 hours and was part of the Soyuz T-12 mission, Savitskaya's last.
